What is Invisalign®?

The Invisalign system makes straightening teeth more accessible, convenient, and comfortable. Custom medical-grade plastic trays precisely fit your teeth, encouraging them to move to optimal positions.

The process begins with a consultation. Your orthodontist will help you choose the best orthodontic treatment. If you choose Invisalign, the orthodontist will first use the iTero intraoral scanner to create a 3-D digital model of your mouth.

Using this model, the orthodontist designs your new smile, pinpointing how each tooth will move. They create a series of aligners to guide each tooth into position over time.

When the aligners arrive from the lab, your treatment can begin. Your orthodontist will check the trays' fit and make sure your aligner is comfortable. You will wear each for about one to two weeks, then return to Advanced Orthodontics to change to the next in the series.

For proper effect, you must wear your aligner for 20 to 22 hours daily. Take the aligner out only to eat, drink, and care for your teeth. In a matter of months, you will have a beautifully even smile.

Benefits of Invisalign®

  • Comfort. Invisalign fits flush against the teeth and gums. After you become accustomed to the trays, you may forget you are wearing them. The aligners have no sharp edges, wires, or brackets to irritate your mouth.
  • Discretion. Braces are highly effective, but they may draw unwanted attention. Older teens and adults appreciate completing their orthodontic treatment in private.
  • No Food Restrictions. The trays come out when you eat and drink, so you can have nearly anything you want. Simply clean your teeth and the trays before replacing them.
  • Improves Oral Health. Patients with Invisalign enjoy better gum health than patients with braces. Braces can make it challenging to keep your gums and teeth clean and free of food and other debris. After treatment, patients maintain better oral health because straighter teeth are far easier to keep clean.

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign®

What happens if you take Invisalign out for a day?
If you take your aligners out and forget to replace them for an entire day, you will lose some of the progress you have worked hard to achieve. Your teeth may not move much during just one day, but the effect will be evident over time. Invisalign patients need to commit to a 20 to 22-hour schedule daily.
Do clear aligners work for overbites?
A qualified orthodontist can adapt Invisalign treatment with attachments or "buttons" to correct an overbite. The buttons hold elastic bands that help with teeth movement.
How long does Invisalign take to straighten your teeth?
Invisalign takes approximately 12 to 18 months. You may have quicker or longer treatment times, depending on your situation.
Do you wear Invisalign when you sleep?
Yes, Invisalign should stay in all night. Nighttime is a necessary period when Invisalign can work to straighten your teeth.
Is Invisalign really invisible?
Yes! Most people will not know you are wearing Invisalign unless you tell them. Your colleagues and classmates may notice a change in your smile, but they may not know what causes it.
How do I care for my aligners?
Caring for aligners is an easy task. Rinse them in cool tap water a few times a day. Brush them twice a day with approved toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Avoid whitening or abrasive toothpastes. We can also provide the Invisalign branded system for a deeper clean.
Does Invisalign harm your teeth?
If you take good care of your teeth and aligners, this system will benefit your oral health without causing damage. However, if you fail to follow instructions, you could cause tooth decay and gum disease.
Will I need a retainer after treatment with Invisalign?
You must wear a retainer, just as you would with braces. If you skip wearing your retainer, your teeth will return to their original positions, wasting your investment in your smile.
